The Old Harbour is only 450 metres from the Hotel. It is an area within what was called the old harbour, that is the area where they used to load and unload goods going to and coming from countries overseas.  This area was turned into a tourist area for the 1992 games in honour of Christopher Columbus and several new attractions were set up: the Aquarium, the Bigo (sightseeing elevator), the De Amicis Library, the Biospèhere, the Cotone Congressi of Genoa, the Galata Museum of the sea, the children’s fun fair, the old Galleon Neptune, the Luzzati Museum, the Antarctica National Museum, the ice skating ring and the Marina Molo or tourist port, |

THE HISTORICAL CENTRE |

The Balbi Hotel is the ideal choice for all those who wish to visit the historical centre of Genoa and to discover all its 17th century palaces. The Hotel is only a few minutes’ walk from Garibaldi street, that has been declared UNESCO World Heritage because of its Strada Nuova Museums: Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco, Tursi. Nearby you can visit the splendid Palazzo Ducale (Ducal palace), De Ferrari square, and the Carlo Felice Opera House . A short walk will take you also to St.Lawrence street and its Cathedral and to the two areas in the historical centre called Piazza delle erbe and Canpo Pisano, that are famous for their typical coffee bars and night life. |

How to get to the Hotel: |

By car: From motorway Genoa West+Consigliata, after leaving the tollgate, at the end of the down hill road, stay on the middle lane, follow the sign posts to the Harbour and the Principe railway station. The Hotel is 200 metres from Aquaverde Square ( piazza Acquaverde).
By car: from Genoa East : after leaving the tollgate go under the subway and along Via Bobbio, proceed as far as the second traffic lights and, at the crossroad, turn right on to Via Montaldo. At the top end of this street you can see a Roman Bridge on the right; after crossing this bridge take the lane on the left; go straight on and you will see the signpost Genova Centro or the Aquarium. Follow the latter signpost and go down Via Assarotti. At the end of this downhill road you will be in Piazza Corvetto; keep on the right and enter the Nino Bixio tunnel; you will get to Piazza Portello; go straight on and enter the second tunnel. At the end of the tunnel you are in Largo Zecca; proceed straight on to piazza Nunziata. At the roundabout proceed straight on to Via Balbi ( this street is off limits for public transport, but not for tourist bound to the hotels). The Hotel is half way through this street. |

By train: The closest railway station is “Genova Principe”, that is only 100 metres from the Hotel, As you leave the station you are in Piazza Acquaverde. Via Balbi is right in front of you, lined by two rows of buildings; go along this street keeping to the left; after just 50 metres you are in front of the Hotel, which is on the second floor of the building. |

By plane: The Cristoforo Colombo airport is only 6 km from the hotel. The shuttle bus (Volabus 100) runs every 30 minutes between the Airport and the Principe railway station. |
